COOK & SCHMID TAPPED FOR WATER CONSERVATION OUTREACH AND COMMUNICATION SERVICES FOR SANTA FE IRRIGATION DISTRICT

SAN DIEGO, CALIF.—The Santa Fe Irrigation District has chosen Cook & Schmid to create a public relations and community outreach plan to educate customers about water supply shortages and conservation programs within its service area.
The Santa Fe Irrigation District serves the City of Solana Beach, Rancho Santa Fe and Fairbanks Ranch—demographically very different communities, ranging from condominiums to large residential lots with citrus groves, as well as larger estate homes with extensive landscaping.
“Communication about the drought and how to conserve water is critical as we face diminished supplies for the region for the long term,” said Cook & Schmid Partner Jon Schmid. “The Santa Fe Irrigation District faces unique challenges because of the differences in water usage and water needs within the district. We will be developing a customized program that will resonate with the different audiences we’ll be talking to.”
Cook & Schmid is also employed by the Olivenhain Municipal Water District for a similar campaign focusing on conservation outreach and will work with both water districts—who share service-area boundaries—to develop uniform messaging to reach a wider portion of the regional audience.
