SAN DIEGO – Cook + Schmid, a full-service public relations, public affairs, advertising and marketing firm, received a Silver Bernays Award of Merit in the category of nonprofit/government/association events (seven days or fewer) at the 2015 Edward L. Bernays Mark of Excellence Awards hosted by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). The agency earned the Award of Merit along with the San Diego County Water Authority for the dedication of the San Vicente Dam Raise, the largest roller-compacted concrete dam raise in the world and the largest addition in water storage in San Diego County’s history.

San Vincente Dam

The San Vicente Dam Raise is the largest roller-compacted concrete dam raise in the world and the largest addition in water storage in San Diego County’s history.

As the marketing consultant to the San Diego County Water Authority, Cook + Schmid provided event planning strategy, branding, and creation of supporting materials for the San Vicente Dam Raise Dedication. Together, the team leveraged the project’s achievement to communicate the importance of water stewardship and to garner support for ongoing efforts to diversify long-term water sources during a historic drought.

“It was an honor to partake in the planning and dedication of such a critical milestone project,” said Jon Schmid, Cook + Schmid CEO and president. “The history of the San Vicente Dam and the teamwork required to build on the existing infrastructure were remarkable – it was a fun occasion to celebrate this success.”

The dedication event enabled direct outreach to important stakeholders and generated significant media coverage reaching audiences statewide. Overall messaging and event giveaways were echoed in the tagline for the event – San Vicente Dam Raise. Resilient. Reliable.
