SAN DIEGO – Cook + Schmid, a full-service public relations, public affairs, advertising and marketing firm, has been selected by the International Bipolar Foundation (IBPF) to conduct an international media relations campaign to educate the public and reduce stigma about Bipolar Disorder.

The campaign will promote awareness, support, and treatment of Bipolar Disorder, as well as challenge the misconceptions associated with the disease often held by the general public, businesses, and schools.
The IBPF works tirelessly to improve the public’s understanding and treatment of Bipolar Disorder through outreach and research. The organization supports resources for both individuals and caregivers, as it assists the search for better treatment.

“Fostering a better understanding of bipolar disorder is the first step in eliminating negative stereotypes around this disease and achieving effective treatment for the bipolar sufferers around the world,” said Muffy Walker. “Cook + Schmid’s experience in combating stigmas and their work with healthcare and mental health issues makes them the perfect partner for this campaign.”

Cook + Schmid’s integrated approach and emphasis on achieving results has earned the firm numerous awards based on results. Over the last two years, the agency has earned Finest Gold (5) and Silver (1) Awards from the Health Care Communicators of San Diego County, a communication organization representing the health care, biotech and medical device industries. In 2012, the agency was awarded the Bronze Anvil Award of Commendation in the area of research and evaluation for the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Housing Matters campaign by the Public Relations Society of America, the world’s largest organization of public relations professionals.
