Cook + Schmid Wins Two Silver Anvil Awards
San Diego firm recognized for public outreach work with Santa Fe Irrigation District
SAN DIEGO—Cook + Schmid, a full-service public relations and marketing agency, announced today that the firm won two Silver Anvils, the industry’s highest national honor for strategic programs, in the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) 2011 competition.
PRSA honored Cook + Schmid for its water conservation public outreach campaign conducted with the Santa Fe Irrigation District. The Silver Anvil Awards, which recognize outstanding achievement in strategic public relations planning and implementation, were presented in New York City on June 9.
Cook + Schmid won top honors in the categories of issues management and public service, and received an Award of Excellence in the category of community relations.
Starting in 2009, the Santa Fe Irrigation District faced an urgent need to reduce resident and business water consumption due to prolonged California drought and new restrictions on water deliveries. To help the Santa Fe Irrigation District achieve its conservation goals, Cook + Schmid planned and implemented an integrated community-based social marketing program to reduce District water consumption. The program included compelling branding, extensive community outreach, print collateral, micro website, social media, and outreach through community volunteers.
In the first six months of the campaign, water use within the district dropped 15 percent, exceeding the District’s original goal of six percent.
“As an agency, we are honored to be recognized for our skill, creativity and resourcefulness,” said Jon Schmid, Cook + Schmid managing partner. “More importantly, we are proud to have created a campaign that truly made a difference in the region.”
This is Cook + Schmid’s fourth year as a PRSA Silver Anvil recipient. The firm won first place in 2007 and 2009, as well as Awards of Excellence in 2008 and 2009.
This year, there were 852 award entries from around the nation for the PRSA Silver Anvils with 122 entries selected as finalists.
