San Diego Minority Supplier Development Council Selects Cook & Schmid For PR

SAN DIEGO, CALIF.—The San Diego Regional Minority Supplier Development Council has selected Cook & Schmid to implement a public relations program to raise awareness about the Council’s work with Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs).

The Council, formerly known as the Council for Supplier Diversity, is a nonprofit organization working to create a direct link between corporate America and minority-owned businesses.

The organization focuses on expanding business opportunities for MBEs through the development of mutually beneficial links with its corporate members. The Council comprises 46 corporate members and more than 125 certified MBEs. Its corporate members include Sony, Wachovia, Union Bank of California, San Diego Gas & Electric, Apple Computer and Kaiser Permanente.

“MBEs confirm an increase in revenues as a result of partnerships with corporate members,” said Ronald B. Garnett, president and CEO of the Council. “By increasing the visibility and public awareness of our organization through our partnership with Cook & Schmid, we will make great strides toward achieving our goals while benefiting San Diego-area MBEs.”

Cook & Schmid will focus on PR, message development and media relations in its work with the Council.

“With federal stimulus dollars flowing into the San Diego region, it is more important than ever to get the word out about MBEs and the valuable services they offer to private companies and public agencies,” said Jon Schmid, partner and co-founder of Cook & Schmid.

The San Diego Business Journal ranked Cook & Schmid as one of the largest minority-owned companies in San Diego.
