North Park Welcomes Garage Art
The long-awaited Garage Art Project in North Park has been completed
SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Signs of an emerging arts scene can be found everywhere you go in the North Park community. Thanks to a project planned and funded through the Redevelopment Agency of the City of San Diego, the North Park Garage Art Project is completed. The goal of the project was to give a local artist the opportunity to showcase their work while adding design and color to the community.
“It’s great to see the visual outcome of this project,”said Mayor Sanders, “North Park is one of the gems of San Diego and these works of art truly represent and enhance the character of this community.”
Designed by local artist Blair Thornley, the project consists of 16 art panels installed on the outside walls of the North Park Parking Garage. The Redevelopment Agency owned parking garage is located at 3829 – 29th Street, between 29th and 30th Streets on North Park Way. Community members are invited to join Mayor Jerry Sanders and Councilmember Todd Gloria in a dedication ceremony that will be held at the southeast corner of 29th Street and North Park Way on January 19, from 11 to 11:30 a.m.
“These works of art add yet another dimension to the vibrant arts community in North Park. Our residents and visitors alike will be able to enjoy them every day,” said Councilmember Todd Gloria who oversees District 3.
Thornley’s work has been featured in The New York Times, Vanity Fair, Vogue, Atlantic Monthly, Forbes, and other national publications. Visit www.blairthornley.com to view her biography, portfolio, clients and contact information.
