On November 6th, Ocean Discovery Institute and Friends Will Celebrate
at Their Annual Bubble Up! Gala
LA JOLLA, Calif.- Ocean Discovery Institute will celebrate its accomplishments and plans for growth at their annual Bubble Up! black-tie gala at Calit2 and Warren Mall, UCSD. The event will provide critical support for its programs and students and features dining, entertainment, and live and silent auctions.
“We are thrilled to share our organization’s vision and long-term commitment to improving our region. The funds generated at Bubble Up! will open doors for more than 5,000 local youth to gain knowledge and understanding of the sciences and nature and prepare these young people to become our future scientific and environmental leaders,” explained founder and Executive Director, Shara Fisler.
This exclusive event includes elaborate silent and live auctions and an evening program hosted by Bill Menish, San Diego’s premier auctioneer. “I feel very fortunate to have benefitted from Ocean Discovery Institute’s programs as a high school student. Now, I am incredibly excited to be part of this crucial event to raise funds that support so many other people like me,” said recent college graduate Tram Nguyen, who started this fall as Ocean Discovery Institute’s first ever full time Fellow.
Attendees will include Councilmember Todd Gloria, President of the San Diego Unified School Board Sheila Jackson, and Olympic bronze medalist Guenter Seidel. “I am so thrilled to co-chair this event that marks tremendous growth for Ocean Discovery Institute. This organization has an incredible impact on our community and this event demonstrates the diversity of support from elected officials, to scientific and philanthropic leaders,” said Sean Caddell of North San Diego County.
All proceeds from the evening’s festivities will fund tuition-free programs, which aim to engage, educate, and inspire youth from urban and diverse backgrounds through science-based exploration of the ocean and nature, preparing them to be tomorrow’s scientific and environmental leaders. Founded in 1999, Ocean Discovery Institute’s vision is to empower urban and diverse youth to protect our ocean and natural environment, improve the health of our communities, and strengthen the quality of life in our world.
