New Edge in Public relations

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

COOK & SCHMID WINS PRSA BRONZE ANVIL
Work for M Ship Co. receives national recognition

NEW YORK (AUGUST 20, 2007) – Cook & Schmid announced today that the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) awarded the firm the 2007 Bronze Anvil Award of Commendation for its work with M Ship Co., a San Diego-based marine technology firm. Each year, PRSA presents Bronze Anvil awards to those organizations that represent the very best in public relations tactics. Cook & Schmid won its award in the category of business-to-business, media relations, out of a field of hundreds of entries nationwide.

PRSA recognized Cook & Schmid for its strategic media relations plan that effectively boosted the profile of its client and helped M Ship Co. initiate relationships with business partners and potential investors. Cook & Schmid designed and implemented a media relations program to help M Ship Co. build its presence in critical trade media, and break into such top-tier media as Forbes, Time, Popular Science and the Discovery Channel.

The agency successfully pitched Forbes on a full-page infographic on M Ship Co.’s Stiletto, a revolutionary craft designed for the U.S. Navy Special Forces. In addition, Cook & Schmid successfully crafted the nomination that landed the Stiletto a spot on Time Magazine’s Coolest Inventions for 2006 list. M Ship also appeared in Popular Science, Maxim, the Discovery Channel, and was a Top Pick on Digg.com, garnering millions of clicks.

“It has been extremely satisfying to help a client with so much talent gain the recognition it deserves. And it has been impressive to see how media coverage can play a positive role in a company’s business strategy,” said Cook & Schmid Partner Jon Schmid, the agency’s lead on the M Ship Co. account.  “I always enjoy seeing how our efforts directly benefit our clients.  And we’re pleased that we were able to incorporate newly emerging social networking technologies like digg.com to help the client maintain a ‘long tail’ on the Internet after print and broadcast coverage has been forgotten.”

PRSA created the Bronze Anvil Awards in 1969 to recognize outstanding public relations tactics, the individual items or components of programs or campaigns. The awards are presented each year in 39 categories and subcategories.
