Background: Los Vientos Family Apartments is one of the many affordable housing developments in Barrio Logan. With a total of 89 units in two buildings, Los Vientos is available to families earning between 30 percent and 60 percent of Area Median Income. The two building complex features four four-bedroom units, 35 three-bedroom units, and 50 two-bedroom units. Rents range from $450 - $1,180 per month.
The $31million project has underground parking, balconies, laundry area, two children’s play areas located in the central courtyard, outdoor barbecue area, and a 1,400 square-foot community clubhouse with a computer lab. Residents will have access to complimentary social services, such as tutoring and English as a second language classes.
The developer for the project is AMCAL Multi-Housing, Inc., and Managing General Partner is Las Palmas Foundation. San Diego architects, Austin Veum Robbins and Parshalle designed the complex. Highlighting the family apartments is a colorful mural painted by local artist, Ruben Seja.
Funded with more than $18 million in nine percent Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, Los Vientos was built with financing provided by U.S. Bank Community Lending, Hudson Housing Capital and California Community Reinvestment Corporation, with more than $8.2 million provided through the Redevelopment Agency of the City of San Diego.
