SCS Engineers Assists Breitbard Properties, LLC in Securing Two Environmental Cleanup Grants From the Orphan Site Cleanup Fund for Over $720,000

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Award-winning environmental consulting firm, SCS Engineers, today announced the company has assisted Breitbard Properties LLC (BPLLC) in securing two environmental cleanup grants from the Orphan Site Cleanup Fund (OSCF), administered by California State Water Resources Control Board. The first grant addresses prior assessment work, and the second focuses on current remediation work being performed. The two grants total more than $720,000.

“The Orphan Site Cleanup Fund has enabled us to move forward to address historical environmental impacts and will allow for the future redevelopment of our property,” said Joan Breitbard Berg, the managing partner of the downtown San Diego site previously known as the California Laundry & Linen Supply. “SCS truly displayed their expertise, leading us successfully through a complicated but worthwhile process.”

The OSCF was created to provide financial assistance to eligible applicants in order to clean up brownfield sites, such as the BPLLC site, with former underground storage tanks. Throughout the State of California, the OSCF has been able to provide funding to eligible grantees in order to clean up their brownfields so they may be redeveloped into sites that revitalize and contribute to the community.

“We have assisted many companies through this process, which can be tricky due to all of the state and federal regulations and requirements of the Cleanup Fund,” said Daniel Johnson, SCS’s Environmental Services Practice Leader of its Southwestern U.S. Consulting/Engineering Operations. “But it is worth it if you can turn your property from blighted to profitable.”
